Today, on October 22, deputy finance minister Oxana Markarova attended the panel discussion "Role of partnership between business and universities for the development of innovations" at the 3rd National Forum "Business and universities".
The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine is closely cooperating with the Ministry for education and science on the decentralization of the education system and financial autonomy for universities which should enable them to improve their educational services and hence to foster innovations.
The key statement of Oxana Markarova in the panel discussion was that dynamic and viable cooperation between universities and business shall help the Ukrainian science and hence economy develop faster and react on market needs for innovations where the government should only act as a regulator and become the so-called «invisible hand» of market in the field of education.
Oxana Markarova emphasized: «The potential of cooperation between universities and business in the area of innovations is very high. For universities to be able to use and develop this potential to a maximum extent, the very paradigm and meaning of universities and their needs should be changed. Instead of being focused on short-term needs of universities dealing with their economic or administrative issues, the focus should be put on strategic issues like innovation research and education of qualified personnel which are actually interesting for business».
The deputy finance minister also made a statement on the creation of project centers at universities. At project centers student shall work as volunteers and manage innovation projects financed by business. Such an approach would help balance demand and supply of universities and business in the area of research and innovations. Secondly, that would help student gain practical experience during their studies.
