Yesterday’s detention of an SFS employee who is suspected of taking a bribe amounting 125 thousand hryvnas can be considered as positive news. However, it’s just one of a huge number of such cases. We have thousands of individuals who are responsible for taking bribes, abuse of authority, recent absurd termination of VAT refund as well as for missing budget revenues due to corruption and pressure on business. The system has rotten to the very bottom.
Instead of tackling separate cases of corruption, we need a complete clean up at the SFS.
In the course of the reform of our tax authorities we will dismiss staff systematically and reduce the number of employees. Instead of bribe-takers who are being arrested today we will hire young, motivated and diligent professionals in an open contest. We will implement new electronic systems to increase transparency and will enhance our control over the employees. Those who still hope they will be able to make “business as usual” are absolutely wrong.
