The first and foremost priority for Ukraine are social welfare payments and pensions which account for a major part of budget spending. In 2016, the Government is going to upgrade the social standards for the most vulnerable citizens in line with the inflation level, i.e. by 12%. At the same time, the Ministry of Finance is striving to bring more fairness to the social welfare system, which makes it necessary to audit and to verify the recipients of the social welfare payments. Minister of Finance of Ukraine Nathalie Jaresko made this statement in her interview for Liga.net.«We are raising the social standards and increasing pensions to support the prosperity and financial power of our citizens. However, we want to have more justice and effectiveness in our social welfare system», the Minister of Finance said. To do this, significant changes in the approach to social welfare are necessary, targeted social welfare payments should be implemented and recipients of pensions and social welfare payments should be verified. It should increase the effectiveness of the use of public funds and foster fairness and transparency in the social welfare system.
«Whenever any family, any company or country is confronted with limited resources, it’s always the most vulnerable ones who are entitled to receive help first thing. In Ukraine we have a number of social programs which do not take the prosperity level of citizens into account. This is wrong, we must discard this practice», Nathalie Jaresko added.
