Today, acting Minister of Finance Oksana Markarova attended the jubilee 20th summit “Ukraine – European Union” as a member of the Ukrainian delegation led by President Petro Poroshenko. The key issues discussed at the summit included:
Progress in the implementation of the Association Agreement, including the launch of a deep and comprehensive free trade zone, and the prospects for the further sectorial integration of Ukraine in areas like digital market, energy community, customs affairs, justice and interior;
Ways for the EU to enhance its aid for Ukraine in regard to the implementation of reforms and energy security;
Coordination of counteractions against the Russian aggression, steps to increase the effectiveness of the policy of sanctions against Russia and to increase the international pressure on the Kremlin to make Russia fulfill the Minsk agreements and restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine including the Crimea and Sevastopol as well as immediately release Ukrainian hostages and political prisoners who are illegally held captive by Russia.
During the summit, a financial agreement was signed between Ukraine and the European Investment Bank (EIB) as part of the project “Increasing the Security of Motorways in Ukrainian Cities” according to which the EIB will provide EUR 75 million to the biggest five cities in Ukraine (Dnipro, Kyiv, Lviv, Odessa and Kharkiv).
