On April 4, the European Union transferred the second tranche to Ukraine amounting 600 million Euro as a part of the Third EU Macrofinancial Assistance Facility. The tranche was transferred according to the decision of the European Commission adopted on March 16 due to the significant progress achieved by Ukraine in delivering on its commitments stipulated in the corresponding Memorandum of Understanding between Ukraine and the EU.
What’s it about?
With the second tranche, the total macrofinancial aid package provided by the EU to Ukraine amount EUR 2.81b making it the biggest financia aid package provided by the EU to third countries.
The implementation of the Third EU Macrofinancial Assistance Facility started in 2015. Its key goal is to stabilize the economy of Ukraine and to boost comprehensive structural reforms.
What comes next?
The Third EU Macrofinancial Assistance Facility is running till the end of 2017 and includes three tranches to Ukraine amounting 600 million Euro each, two of them have already been transferred to Ukraine.
