The European Investment Bank (EIB) was founded in 1957. The shareholders of the EIB are now 28 EU member-states. The European Investment Bank does not only provide loans, but also acts as one of the largest borrowers on international financial markets. This is not prohibited by the bank’s chapter, the EIB can attract loans to favorable conditions and, accordingly, offer loans at the lowest rates. The bank has the highest financial rating ААА.
Cooperation between Ukraine and the EIB
In 2004, Ukraine started cooperation with the European Investment Bank and developed its legislation to receive loans from the EIB for projects in infrastructure, energy supply, environment protection and other areas.
The EIB is now examining potential projects in Ukraine in transport, telecommunications, infrastructure for energy supply (on the priority routes of trans-European networks and European transport corridors), environment protection and others.
